Forbes’ 5th highest paid celebrity under the age of 21 for 2007 and Teen People’s one of Hottest Stars Under 25 for 2006, Amanda Bynes was born on the 3rd of April 1986. She was first known as one of the hosts of Nickelodeon. She also starred in many successful Nickelodeons’ television series in 1990s to the early years of 2000 making her one of the most recognizable faces by young teens across the nation. After her stint in television, she started appearing in teen movies such as She’s the Man and the just released Hairspray.

Amanda was born in California from a dentist/stand-up comedian Catholic father, Rick Bynes, and dental assistant and office manager Jewish mother Lynn. Amanda is Jewish although she was quick to admit that she is not a very religious person. Amanda has an older brother Tommy who is a chiropractor and Jillian who also acts from time to time. Amanda’s family was hailed from Ontario, Canada.

Amanda started acting at the young age of seven. Arsenio Hall along with Richard Pryor became her early mentors at the comedy camp where she was first exposed to acting.

Professionally though, she first appeared in the Buncha Crunch commercial for television. She is also quite familiar with the stage and had experiences in live performances in Annie, The Sound of Music and the Music Man. She also appeared for stage for The Secret Garden which she particularly loves. This was then followed by her acting stint for Nickelodeon. She appeared for the channel in Figure it Out in 1996. This was a complete success and catapulted her to fame. Also on that same year she appeared in All That. Her success was followed by her own sketch show in Nickelodeon, The Amanda Show, where she showcased her comic prowess taught by her old mentors.

Her first acting stint in the big screen was in 2002’s Big Fat Liar. She co-starred with Frankie Munizz, of Malcolm in the Middle fame. This was then followed the following year by What A Girl Wants where she played opposite Oliver James. She also starred in What I Like About You, also in 2003. She provided her voice for the animated flick Charlotte’s Web 2: Wilbur’s Great Adventure. In 2006 she appeared in She’s the Man, based on The Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. And this year she was praised for her performance in the movie Hairspray.
