Alexandra Tydings started her acting career when she was eleven years old in the Royal Ballets Isadora held at the Kennedy Center. Aside from acting she also enjoyed numerous jobs including a script reader, dog walker, coordinator at a universitys womens center, receptionist at dance studio, waitress, model, singer and band member, and a video store clerk. She even did some demolition work. Alexandra Tydings attended the private high school Sidwell Friends and graduated with a degree in film and critical theory at the Brown University. She also studied in Sorbonne focusing on feminist film theory.
She is best known for her character of goddess Aphrodite in hit TV series Xena and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Her role in both series proved to be of vital importance because she created the rage and jealousy which the audience could feel in every episode. Thus this made Alexandra Tydings a mainstay in both shows for without her, there would be no excitement Xena and Hercules fans always look forward to.
Alexandra Tydings also starred in Michael Ciminos Sunchaser, as well as guest appearances in Red Shoe Diaries, Party of Five, and Vanishing Sun. She has explored over forms of entertainment, and thus was able to produce an audio play entitled Anne Marx and the Ring of the Minotaur which starred Claudia Christian.
Not only is Alexandra Tydings an accomplished actress but a dancer as well. During her growing up years she studied Irish Celtic dance as well as ballet, and her skills led her to represent the United States in a dancing competition held in the United Kingdom. Alexandra Tydings also stretched her multi-talented personality by playing bass and front vocals for two punk bands, Annabelles Kickbox and Shes Seen You Naked.
Alexandra Tydings is married to Ben Luzatto and they have two children. They currently reside in Washington, DC and together they now teach Rock and Roll Yoga. She has two tattoos, one on her arm, and another on her shoulder.
