What many of her fans do not know is that she has co-written and produced the documentary Jampacked and The Coast of Cool: Finding Happiness in a Materialistic World. Jampacked, a documentary about population crisis, had won her Bronze Apple Award while the Coast of Cool, the CINE Golden Eagle Award.
As evident in her documentaries, Alexandra is a political and environmental activist. In 2005 she was awarded by the ACLU of Southern California Activist of the Year. She has traveled across the globe along with medical aid groups to help those in need of medical assistance in remote areas. In 1997 she was honored for her work by the United Nations.
As for her political activities, she was arrested in 2003 for trespassing in a federal property while protesting against the war on Iraq. In 2006 she donated $250 to Ned Lamont in campaign against Lieberman. She has also donated $2,300 to Representative Dennis Kucinich. In 2005 she was arrested while on protest against the crushing of electric vehicles in California. She is also one of the most active members of the Plug In America, an advocacy group promoting electric cars.
