Alexa Havins discovered her acting abilities through renowned acting coach Jean Fowler. It was Fowler who helped her develop her talent, the way her mentor did with the likes of Jennie Garth of Beverly Hills: 90210 and Amy Davidson of 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter.
Alexa Havins then moved to New York City and studied at the Circle in the Square Theatre School. She first played bit parts on TV and film, and because of increasing offers, she had to move to Los Angeles wherein she bagged lead roles in four movies and numerous guest appearances on TV, among of which are Reno 911 and Lifetime Televisions Secret Lives. She was also offered a supporting role in the horror thriller Crow: Wicked Prayer along with Tara Reid, Dennis Hopper, and Edward Furlong. Alexa Havins was not able to work on the said film, however, due to conflicts with her hectic work schedule as she joined the cast of All My Children during the same time.
Alexa Havins played the character of the imperfect, yet down-to-earth Babe Carey. Alexa Havins sweet, innocent looks complemented by sheer brilliance in acting made her deserving for a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series, as well as a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actress. Coincidentally, she was also called Babe by her mom when she was a little kid.
While being in All My Children, Alexa Havins was also busy doing feature films including Joe Killionaire, a horror-comedy by Sean Morton, Tracy Michele Tabs romantic comedy First Kiss, Ash Christians Fat Girls, and Travis Betzs Joshua. She has also guest-starred in the critically acclaimed series Rescue Me. Alexa Havins was also hooked up with theater work and is credited on the production of Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie and Carson McCullers The Member of the Wedding. Her most recent film project was the mob drama Brooklyn Rules, where she shared the screen with Alec Baldwin, Scott Caan, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Mena Suvari.
Alexa Havins is married to former All My Children co-star Justin Bruening. Bruening proposed to her on the set of All My Children, after the scene where his character, Jamie, proposes to Havins character, Babe.
